A small family Ranch and Cidery located in Korbel, CA on the North Fork of the Mad River

Dive a little deeper into Crazy River

  • The Cidery

Born of patience, time, sunshine, and soil, Crazy River Cider Co is a vision made into reality. An effort to harness the harvest into libations that are driven by spirit and perseverance, adventure and fortitude, and the responsibility we have to ensure a rich culture and healthy planet for our future.

Crazy River Cider is produced in small batches that are driven by the harvest. We hand pick every apple at peak ripeness to ensure sweet fruit with maximum flavor for you to eat and for us to transform into delicious cider.

Our apples are pressed soon after harvest and fermented yards away from the orchard. The majority of our cider is slowly fermented throughout the winter then aged. Thus adding layers to our cider that only time, one of our special ingredients, can.

Our ciders are a reflection of the land that is Crazy River Ranch. The weather, the soil, the air, and the animals and life on Crazy River Ranch all play a part in the creation of our cider.

  • The Ranch. The Land

Crazy River Ranch is located in the lush Mad river Valley between the north fork and the main stem of the Mad River, just outside of Blue Lake Ca. We manage a small herd of Black Angus cattle who rotate between open pasture and wooded riparian habitat leading to a wide variety of forage and habitat.

We have planted and care for roughly 8 acres of fruit trees. The first orchard we planted was just under 1000 fruit trees on semi- standard root stock. We have since planted 2 tall spindle orchards focusing primarily on traditional cider apple varieties.

  • Open summer pasture with tall golden grass. Black angus cattle in the distance, with trees and blue sky in the background.

    The Beef

Our Black Angus grass-fed beef is always finished on pasture. The diverse forage our cattle eat their entire lives translates into beef with high nutrient density and great flavor all while helping to regenerate the land. A win for the health of the land and a win for your health!

In addition to the steaks, roasts, and ground beef most of us are use to, we also offer many parts of the animal you may not yet be familiar with including heart, kidney, liver, bones, suet, and shanks. These cuts are where you can find the most nutrients each animal has to offer. If you are new to organ meat (offal), try out a pack of our offal sausages as an introduction to these nutrient dense foods.

  • The Orchard. The Apples

After much love and many work parties, prunnings, and battles with gophers, bears, and crows, our precious apple trees are beginning to produce enough apples for you all to eat and for us to make hard cider, apple cider vinegar, and other orchard based products.

We currently grow over 70 varieties of apples and over 100 other cultivars of fruit at Crazy River Ranch, including plums, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, and Asian pears.

“This magical marvelous food

on our plate,

this sustenance we absorb,

has a story to tell.

It has a journey.

It leaves a foot print.

It leaves a legacy.”
